For serial numbers, I found an article online stating about how the serial numbers were coded on the '49 - '51 ( 1949 - 1951 Ford Truck US* Canad ). Would there be something similar for pre-'49 models? As mentioned the 799T and 71HT codes, guessing the 7 was year and T was Ton (like the F-Series), but as for the 99 and 1H, is there a way to tell the engine type (such as V6/V8, horsepower, etc)?

Thanks
Those are the engine codes - althought I screwed up. 47 had the G series 6 cylinder. 48 and later had the H series 6.

99 was the V8 designation. 1G was the 226 ci flat six designation.
