Over or undercharging. Instead of putting out a consistent 13-14 volts, it can shoot up to 18, or go down to 11 or 12 volts. If it overcharges, it could hurt your battery. Undercharging will not allow your alternator to keep up with demands, like headlights, heater blower, wipers, and so on, and drain your battery.
