Yeah, it's a real PITA, but you can do it. The secret is this: you must remove the transmission dipstick tube. It's only one bolt, diretly threaded into the block. After that, the tube just pops out from where it's connected to the tranny.

Of course, before you do this, you must jack it up, put a jackstand under it, remove the front passenger wheel, undo a couple of bolts that hold the wheel-well plastic-thingy in, fold the plastic thingy back so you can see what you're working with, then remove the tube.

Honestly, I fumbled with it for about 2 hours before removing the tube. After that, I was done in 10 minutes.

I'm about 99.9% sure it's not possible without removing the tube.
