I didn't need to modify anything when I swapped in my ZF, not even any electrical. I only had to reuse the trans mount from my M5 because the ZF's mount had a slightly different spacing where it bolted to the cross member. I was lucky to have the right shift lever for my ZF. It was probably the easiest swap I ever did.
