Beautiful work there RalphXL!

I have a round headlight '78 with a 400/C6/NP-203 I'm working on, same paint scheme as yours. You just don't see those paint schemes around very often.

That's an...

The 434 built for the "Shazam" pulling truck supposedly made 799HP and over 600TQ (I forget exactly!). This was with a set of "max effort" '69 Boss 302 heads with port plates. The engine as a whole...

Kirk,

Nice looking rig there!

The Comp XE256 or 255DEH are good choices for mild builds. I would probably call Comp and get springs, lifters, etc. those stock springs are getting plenty old! ...

Youngblood,

Yes - follow what palmrose2 did and you'll be in great shape. The "M" head isn't really all that bad. The intake port is actually pretty good and the work palmrose2 did is just what...

I think that block would withstand use in a Top Fuel application! That's one sturdy looking piece!

Nice Bud!

That's super close to what my son's truck looks like, but his is a 78. We're rebuilding a 400 - on the cheap, for it now. His isn't nearly as nice as yours though! Great looking rig!

Six quarts. I think the ALL take six quarts - regardless of pan configuration.

Hard to pass up on all the advantages of fuel injection at that price. A good carburetor will cost you half that! Keep us posted on how you like it! Which system did you get?

Palmrose2,

I would advise against running without a fan, fan and shroud for that matter. If you are worried about drag, run a couple of electrics. Just begging to overheat the thing otherwise...

Jean-guy,

My vote is for tuner here..... 100%

Back in the day you could add an intake or exhaust system to an engine and get a "seat of the pants" performance improvement, but with these newer...

Palmrose2,

Okay, about the intake - don't bother trying to port match. Both the Weiand Action+ and the Edelbrock Performer are good to around 400 HP as-is. If you were looking for 500HP you'd...

Palmrose2,

You've got the right idea on the exhaust. Round off the edge of that plateau just a bit and get rid of that air injection bump helps a lot! I'll be curious how you like the cam, so...

Palmrose2,

I'm in the process of helping my oldest son rebuild a 400 for his '78 F-150 - also on the cheap!

For what it's worth I think you're correct that to MIG weld a nut on the back would...

Busted,

You're on the right track with a hydraulic roller "retrofit" cam. No way I'd try and push 400HP in a 302 without one. Plenty of aluminum heads can get you to 400HP or better, but...
