I went ahead and replaced all the plugs, since they had pretty close to 30k miles. Also replaced the O2 sensor. Truck is running good. :)

I did the exact same swap (E4OD to ZF), and I unplugged the transmission wiring...

With the new regulator I get 30 psi engine...

With the new regulator I get 30 psi engine running, 40 psi with vac disconnected. Same on both tanks. After shutting down the engine, key on, it's 35 psi.

With the old regulator I get 60 psi...

If it is the rivets, I'm inclined to think it would be better to drill them out (carefully) and put in some grade 8 bolts, rather than welding on the frame.

I would use the stock plugs. Copper plugs conduct better. When an engine calls for platinum plugs, it's because the engineers have designed it to use those. They designed the 5.8 for ordinary copper...
