Yup. The version split occurs in 1972....

Yup. The version split occurs in 1972. Consecutive unit numbers up to and including M80,000 use the early version and M80,001 and after use the later version.

Your results may vary. I have never had any luck just by smacking the steering arm. A little tension is generally needed to break the mating surfaces.
