Just for grins and giggles, I suggest that you check the fuel pump relay. it is under the hood on the drivers side. I had the same problem and that worked for me.

Vacum Lines.

I have a 1989 F150, 4wd, 6 cylinder. I believe the vacuum lines are in the wrong order at the canister under the hood.


Can someone post a photo showing the canister and the lines holed to it.

My 1989 Ford truck has fuel pumps inside the tank and one on the drivers side of the frame.

Excessive Fuel Use

Have a 1989 F150 4WD Standard 4 speed with overdrive. Been sitting for a number of years and had to put a new fuel tank and pump on it.


Took it for a test drive and noticed the check engine...

When I bought my new tank, the pump and sending unit had a big gob of dielectric grease on it. Might do well to put some on before you put the bed back on it.

Remove the fuel line from the front of the frame...

Remove the fuel line from the front of the frame mounted pump. switch to the rear tank and see if it is pumping fuel. Also there is a time switch that will cut off all pumps if you don't try to start...

On the 1989 f150, there is a fuel pump relay located on the left side of the engine compartment. It is in line with the readout plug for checking engine codes. About $17.00 at Auto Zone.
