A bad regulator would bleed the fuel back to the tank, a bad injector will bleed the fuel into the intake and then into the cylinder and then past the rings into your oil. So I would have to say you...

How did you confirm that the injectors were not firing?

Perhaps the engine is flooded, meaning to much fuel?
Try cranking the engine with the gas pedal floored.
This shuts off the injectors...

The thing is that any header on a 5.8L will help performance. The stock cast iron manifolds are a cork on a 5.0L and they are the same or worse on the 5.8L.

I do have a code reader but haven't plugged it in yet. The TPS was on my list of suspects. A vacuum leak is also a possibility and will be looked into and also it can be hard to find. Especially on a...

Erratic idle on a 5.8LW

I thought I'd post my problem here and perhaps save myself some work in trying to figure out what's the wrong.

I have a 1988 E250 van with the 5.8L. Lately it has had an erratic idle. It would...

These rockers are not a simple bolt on mod but will require you to adjust the valve clearance for each valve. Not really hard if you have done it before but if not then it can be a bit confusing. ...

I'm not carb expert but I tell you what I think. Get a "Dual Plane" intake what ever brand you buy. You want "street" performance so anything else will hurt that goal.

If the EGR is...

Yes, just run a new line. Getting the old one out or running it the same way is just wasted time.

I have to agree with "baddad" on this. A LSA of less then 110 deg. will make for a "lumpy" idle. Of course if that's what you want then go for it but if you want good response off idle and good drive...

Two things to look out for are: does the donor engine have a roller cam or flat tappet? It's important as you will need to match the dist. drive gear to the type of camshaft the engine has. Roller...

If the heads have stock combustion chambers, that is "as cast" then you can polish the chamber to a smooth finish. This will lower the CR a bit and help it resist pre-ignition.
How much volume you...

A little research and you would have found that the standard valve sizes on the FE series of engines are the same. Intake is 2.02 and exhaust is 1.55. Now if the head is a "performance" head like...

What year is the engine? An old 302 while cheap may not be the bargain you think it is.
Since almost any 302 from 1968-1997 can be swapped into your truck you should look at getting the most bang...

I do know that the 400M when introduced in 1971 was rated at 250 HP. Due to emission controls added in later years by 1979 I would bet that it made no more the 200 HP. By then the 400M was a truck...

Don't discount the Ford OEM cams. The 1993 Cobra cam with 1.7 RR's will make over 300 HP and 330 Ft Lb of torque in a 5.0L. In a 330 cid engine it will make more but at a lower rpm and that seems...
