I know very little about these engines but I seem to remember that one had a six bolt flywheel, the other was attached with eight bolts.

Well you don't say what engine this is, but if it is a 351 then the stock casting code for 1994-97 was F4TE, so that might be the block used in the crate engine.

Ford might have defaced the...

You might find a parts carb on ebay or at a swap meet. There is a strong likelihood that there are different booster assemblies, however.

I would start with the carb in stock condition, and only change the jets if it shows definite signs of running too lean (or rich). When the carb was made in the 1960s they weren't too concerned...

Yes, around 48 size jet sounds right to me from my memory of these old carbs.
Ford used Holley type jets up to about 1962 then switched to their own design with larger threads (5/16"-32 IIRC).

Well you will have to get that cap off eventually, so I would just drill out the lock. Then smell the gasoline and if it is kind of stale, I would use it once the engine is warmed up on the other...

Interesting snow machine.
I also am suspicious of the oil gauge and sender. I would temporarily unscrew the oil pressure sender and plumb in a mechanical oil pressure gauge and see what readings it...

Also check for blown power valves (there's one in each metering block on the oddball Holleys on these engines).

What carb do you have? The stock one should be a Ford Autolite 2150 I believe, but you refer to a "pump by-pass valve" which so far as I know is part of the accelerator pump circuit on a Weber carb....

For lower rpm power the stock 4V iron intake is best. An aluminum one will save weight however. I don't know the performance of the Offy dual port other than noting the dual port really restricts...

I would try a junkyard and ask to look in their pot metal core pile or barrel where they through junk carbs and other similar metal.

According to one of the numerous carb size calculators on the internet, you only need 258 CFM to run the 351 at 3000 rpm, and 525 CFM is good for 6100 rpm.
