It took me 4 hours to get the blower motor out of my '78. It required removing the AC coil, then the heater core, then a baffle before I could even see the fan. Be glad it's just a heater core.

I had the back of a 9" crack along the weld, in my '76 F150. I had no welding equipment at the time so let someone I trusted weld it back up. Never had another drip from it.

It will go under the bench with a tag of year, CID, problem. Eventually It might be used as a core, parts donor or a way to plug a hole in an engine block. It still has a use.
