If you keep the 8V the regulator has to be adjusted to charge enough.
I could never get enough voltage and went back to a 6V Tractor Supply Battery that works fine.

I tried one in my 55 but could never get the regulator to charge enough.
Went to a Tractor Supply 6V and works and...

Just to muddy things up a bit, if you can afford to powder coat, that is an excellent alternative. Did my 55 frame with that about 10 yrs ago and am completely happy with it. Expensive, but worth it...

Did this with my 55. Just be careful putting it together so as not to scratch anything.
You will get a better paint job this way.

I run 6.00 x 16 Coker bias tubed white walls on my 55.
Don't drive it much, a few miles a year. They flat spot after sitting but quickly recover.

Got them as I wanted everything as original.
