What rear gear ratio do you have? When towing, it's all about torque-to-the-ground. If you went from, let's say, 3.73 to 4.10, that's a 10% increase in torque to the ground all across the board....

LOL - the Dana 60 in my highboy did that a few times Dana 70? Better axles? In my case, I broke the diff carrier once as well, so I'm not sure better axles won't just move the breakage somewhere...
