Need to check fuel pressure.

If the fuel pressure regulator is bad, it can cause same symptoms. I know. It took me some time to diagnose same issue with pinging and hot starting problem.

Since you completely did away with the smog piping, just remove all of the vacuum lines. Then run 1 vacuum line from the vacuum reservoir to the EGR vacuum solenoid.

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

Any codes?
Checking fuel psi can tell you a lot if the regulator is bad, pump is weak, or injector's are leaking...

I'm running a 20+ year Motorcraft coil and 0.054 gap @ 16° timing.
