Just give it a tug. If it's stuck, get some pliers and pull harder.
There's nothing like a screw/bolt holding it in there. Just a "tight" fit.

I was wondering about that too, but like you said, it wasn't offered in your year.
It was either special order (doubtful since it was discontinued) or it's been swapped in. Either way, if it's a...

Ah, okay, I know what part you're talking about. That might affect your emissions a bit, but I doubt it has much to do with performance and mileage.

The two version of the motor are a 240 and a...

Not sure on which auto transmissions were which years. Do you have overdrive? And do you have a tachometer? The RPMs you're at can make a difference. Still, 10mpg is low.

31s aren't that big. ...

Hello and welcome to the forums. :D
Yeah, the 302 (especially the fuel injected version) should do pretty well on gas mileage. A few can even eek 20mpg out of them on a good day.

As for the...

The main issue I've always run into with timing tape is that there is simply no where to put it. The thickest ridge on the balancer is about 1/4" or less.
At least it is on mine.

What I ended...

I don't think you'd really run into any issues with going to a single port. From what I've seen, the dual port is a bit of an older setup (neither of my '80s 300s with a manual transmission had a...

I've never actually seen or had a dual vac. But from what I understand, the two ports work opposite of each other. One of them is the vacuum advance, and the other is the vacuum retard.
I can...

I don't think there are a lot of them listed on their site. I just emailed and asked. If you're still interested, it's a great option. So happy with mine. :D

Same rag joint. Unless it was replaced before I got it, it probably has around half a million miles on it (seriously). It works great, and looks to be in good shape, so I haven't replaced it yet.

Such an amazing improvement!

No, 3000 RPMs isn't going to net you the best mileage. My '84 is in the same boat with an NP435, 3.55 gears, and 31" tires. It's around 3000 RPMs at 70 - 75. Even at 65mph, it still only gets 15...

Hey Parsedout. I know how frustrating that can be!

First off, what type of conditions is this mileage under?

Is it stop-and-go around town?
35 - 45mph?
Interstate at a smooth, constant...

What is the "wide open gizmo?" The choke?
Are you sure the choke isn't just stuck shut? (That would definitely kill mileage).

You may simply need a carb rebuild. Or your EGR valve needs to be...
