You are correct. The 55 was 6v positive ground...

You are correct. The 55 was 6v positive ground and the 56 is 12v negative ground.
The guys with the 56 wlll be able to give you more info on their wiring.

Well now that's interesting. Notice the water pump. That indicates a 239 but the carb is a larger carb. I wonder what the story is on this engine.
The transmissions also has the parking brake drum...
