There was no automatic transmission for the 4x4 in the 60's. The options were a column shifted 3spd manual or a floor shifted 4spd.

The automatic came sometime in the 70s for the 4x4.

That's an awfully heavy truck to accelerate, and the wind and rolling resistance are both higher than a pickup truck.
