Somewhat of a wild guess since I don't want to crawl the old bones under there to look but I think the rod is the same length as the one for the brake master...

A passenger car bell housing may work but also see what diameter clutch disc is used on the 1 3/8" input shaft. It may also require a different flywheel, pressure plate for that disc.

I can't imagine anything in the clutch that can make a growling noise except the throw out bearing. Possibly a bearing in the trans is what you are hearing. You did fill the trans?

I haven't had mine apart or changed a fuse in the last 25 years but I seem to recall there is small printing next to each fuse to identify it..
