Any 6.8L or 5.4L 4x4 4R100 should work. The 6.8L transmission will give you some firm to very firm shifts, but it will work.

Codes would be interesting, but no matter what codes are there the answer is that trans needs to be rebuilt or replaced. There is nothing simple that is going to fix it.

I think the problem is that the TCM (Transmission Control Module) isn't getting powered up. That means the transmission will always be in fourth gear, so it never shifts and will be VERY sluggish...
