Seems to me there's nothing good that could come from not having bumpstops... at minimum you'll have metal to metal contact when you hit a big something. At worst, you're letting the springs travel...

If you decide to go with your original thought, Plasti dip makes coatings that can be colored or clear, and they come in 5 gal pails... not sure how it would last long term, though.

I usually cut the recommended service intervals...

I usually cut the recommended service intervals by 1/2 on transmissions, and change the fluids immediately on any new (to me) vehicle. You should definitely do it!

No, your steering stabilizer leaking won't cause what you're feeling.
Check the tech stickys at the top of the page for the full details... But basically (for a 4x4) you can use X or V code springs...
