YES to the whitewalls, I would love to put some on my truck... But a very loud NO to tires from the 70's. They can (and will) come apart, any tire over 6 years old should not be used.

Also make sure to use the correct flexplate. A C4 flexplate will bolt up fine with an AOD, but will cause a bad vibration around 1500 RPM. I found this out the hard way...

you'll have to cut off the spring perch and weld it onto the bottom of the axle housing. the hardest part is getting the spring pins out so that you can drop the axle. I bought new spring perches...
