14 gauge seems light to me. Use two 30 amp relays with socket and pig tail some 10 gauge to power them and to the headlights and use your 14 gauge to trigger.

California trucks are registered as commercial vehicles. My 95 ranger is registered as commercial. There are ways to change it to non commercial. I don't remember the particulars on how to change it...
