Had a 1980 Crown Vic cop car years ago with a 351W with a VV carb. Holley made a direct replacement and it ran great.

Welcome to the forum.
The center sensor is a knock sensor. The one in the head is the temp sensor. It senses actual head temp instead of coolant temp for the gauge. Gotta have it.

I don't know how it could blow off the coil unless exhaust is leaking around the plug.
