Anti-freeze leaks can be sneaky. The areas it collects may not be where its leaking. I'd look above the areas of your pictures for leaks or white "leak trails". Cylinder head joint and water...

It does sound like the transmission... it may have a problem. Check/change lube would be a first step.

As far as height, when empty the rear should be a bit high. Loaded with ~2,500# a bit...

I just installed the LMC hose. Quality seemed OK... time will tell. As posted, it can be done with the tank in place but not easy. Helped a lot to dismount the filler assembly from the bed side...

Can you describe the noise the transmission is making? Are you sure it is the transmission? The 300 isn't a highway speedster but should do at least 60 MPH without fuss even with 4.10's.

A few...

Looks like a great starting point for a project... assuming not too much hidden rust. If you enjoy working on them and have a place to do it, you can have a really nice and useful truck. That's the...

With your goals, I like the idea of a big OE replacement type muffler. Big=low restriction. OE type = quiet. The OE muffler on my '78 400 is 2.5" in and 2.25" out. NAPA has a generic replacement...

For towing kinda heavy, I'd personally go with a bit taller tire and keep the 4.10's. With 31" or 32" tires it should handle speeds up to 70 or so and still tow well. Yes it the engine will spin a...

The guideline for fusible links is two gauge sizes smaller than the power wire. 10 gauge power wire would get 14 gauge fusible link. The link is like a slooow blow fuse. It can take an overload...

On the backspace, Dents seem to like near zero offset. On an 8" wheel that wold be 4.25-4.5" backspace. The 4" sounds close. Can you drive over and test fit? That would be best.

Both tire...

Agree stick with the OE gear or if needed a quality OE replacement part. Also agree the Duraspark is a solid system if wiring is OK and with a good module... sounds like yours is. FWIW I run the...

I run a stock 400 in a '78 F250 4x4 standard cab. 4.10's and 31" tires. Does well with a 6500 # trailer... wouldn't be afraid to do more but it would be on the slow side.

Timing set, cam, 4...

Will your block clean up at .040" overbore? May be the best option. Or look for a new block. 351m and 400 blocks are the same. If you score a decent 400 with crank, all your heads, mounts ect....

It is 1) gauge/dash 2) sender 3) wiring 4) grounds that is causing your problem.

A related question, how do your temp and OP gauges work? If OK that rules out the instrument panel voltage...

On the "should I just get the D60" I'd suggest yes. The D60 is readily available, tough and plenty of service and parts available. If yours is "toast" I'd look for a used one and service it or...

Sounds like something is "out of whack". On my '78, originally dual tank, filling the rear tank is no problem. There is a main fill hose plus a ~3/4" vent line to let the air out as the tank fills....
