And more then likely the engine is still in good...

And more then likely the engine is still in good shape if that SUV is in the junk yard due to crash damage. Which means that you may be able to just put in fresh rings and bearings after a light hone...

I'm not up on the 5.4 but there is the 3V option. Mustang had them starting in 2005 and I know that some Lincolns SUV's and others got 3V 5.4's too.

I agree here. With 3.73's and only a 3 speed auto you should be able to get more RPM's out of that engine unless something is wrong with it or it's very tired.

A good 4bbl should get the same or even better mpg's as a 2 bbl. It's all in the size of the carb, it's jetting, and if a vaccum or mechanical secondary throttle. Also it helps if you don't floor it...
