If the resistor is bad, the motor will only run in high speed, reguardless of where the speed selector is set. Sounds to me the motor is toast.

I agree with this. 12.5 volts is the minimum for a good battery. A load test on the batteries would be a good place to start IMO.

The 92 is probably a 2WD, and his truck is a 4X4. I believe the only 4X4 duallys offered were cab and chassis units.
