hope the fuel pump gets you back on the road. the reason you should do a voltage test during cranking is because your looking at voltage alone no current nothing and its not uncommon for the voltage...

check for power and ground along with current before you replace that fuel pump other wise there is a chance you will go through that head ache only to find it still does not work.

the only thing that's going to fix a cylinder head problem is to pull the head off and see what needs to be done if its a cylinder head issue. you might try pulling the follower for that cylinder...
