That's what I'd do look for a truck that needs a drive train, lot easier to swap than a frame and plenty of years to choose from for direct swap.

Every vehicle made anytime recently has a rev limiter. The flashing light was not a rev warning. It should redline somewhere between 5500-6K.

The truck probably isn't warming up much past 130 degree's, when it idles even a short bit it drops back to 100 and feels cold. Put a winter front on and it will help.
