Are these the standard Pertronix unit, or the Ignitor II version? The standard unit can burn out if you leave power on for more than 30 seconds or so without the engine running, so that might be one...

5-cylinder air cooled, NA, about 90 hp/305 tq. Noisy as hell, but also strong as hell and able to take turbo etc. with no problem to double (or more) the output.

Look down by the starter and in addition to the engine casting number, there should be some smaller digits cast there,...
