It is 2 wheel drive. The engine is stock with Duraspark retrofit. These engines have maximum torque @ something like 1600 RPMs, so pull nicely in the 1500-2500 RPM range.

Try this: remove the hood when ambient temperatures get high and see if your problem...

1986 F150 with 4.9L, 4 speed manual O.D. transmission, 3.08 rear gears and 215/75 X 15 tires... 2000 RPMs = 70 mph. :)

Since the orientation really does not matter,...

Since the orientation really does not matter, mount it so it is easiest regarding throttle cable routing and being able to reach the air/fuel mixture screws. :)

I would go with two doors, Gary, for the same reason listed by 85lebaront2. But, I would only install and plumb one [front?] so as to not have to switch from tank to tank to prevent gumming problems....

My son's 1984 did the same thing. The cable going from the solenoid to the starter [positive] was just a little loose at the solenoid. Once tightened, no more problem.
