Yes, I did get it finished up. I used a u-joint with a vibration damper. It is just a little shorter than the 2 u-joints and short shaft. So the steering column didn't need to be cut.

Are you sure the springs are sitting in the pockets correctly on both sides? Did you look inside the spring pockets when the springs were removed to make sure the pockets were clean...
