Hi Seattle50. Yes my engine would still turn about 350 degrees back and forth but would not make a complete revolution. There was a definite metal-on-metal end feel at the end of the available range...

For what it's worth

My 49 Merc M68 has te single pole temp sending unit on the driver's side head above cylinder #6 and a threaded plug in the outlet above #7. The 2 pole sending unit is on the passenger side head...
