It could be that his OLD engine was the one putting out the oil and filled the exhaust system and now his NEW engine has enough power to push it out. Who knows, anything is possible.

You can test this by grounding the sender wire....

You can test this by grounding the sender wire. If it pegs, the gauge is good. If it doesn't, then you need a gauge. You can probably buy a whole cluster used cheaper than get yours fixed.

Just go to your favorite parts store and ask for one. Many applications have multiple ports like the one in my pic. And they aren't expensive. I don't remember how much that one was, but it was cheap.

In my 89 F250 460 C6 3.55 gears I get 9mpg on a regular basis. 6 Litre tune-up made a big difference. I have got as good as 12mpg on longer trips, but I don't expect to get that very often!

It won't matter which way the holes in the bolt are pointed. There is a big enough cavity around those holes that the oil will go where it is supposed to.
