The idle speed control screw is on the driver...

The idle speed control screw is on the driver side toward the front, the screw end butts up against the carb body. There's probably a reason it's idling low. Make sure the carb is bolted down tight.

Great post! Too many people see their engine run like crap and the first thing they think of is "rip off the emissions stuff". Yours is a terrific testament that an old engine can be brought back...

My carbed 300 does the same. I start the day with a warmed up engine idling ar 600 rpm.
Later in the day I pull in the driveway and it's 800+.

Look at it this way...it ran fantastic when it came off the Ford dealer lot. Nothing wrong with the facrory design. If you're having problems it's cause it needs maintenance or repair.
