Ford needs to do better with their tuning. They have been doing a poor job of it IMO for decades now. Of course some it is due to the fudds that will complain about a firm shift or a throttle pedal...

The 285/75R16s are perfect on a stock height/stock wheel truck IMO. Have been running them for years. You can twist the truck up off road and they won't rub.

There is no bearing adjustment on the 4x4 unit bearings. You get what you get from the factory. The 2x4 trucks have a different setup.

I would be pulling the caliper and rotor to check things out. If the bearing itself has a cage that came apart or failed in another way you should be able to hear and feel it while turning the unit...

The Super Duty is not a heavy duty truck. Looking at the track record of Fords diesels from 03.5'-10' is enough of a reason but there are a lot of others.
