I would take the battery out and take it to an auto parts to be tested. At least take the terminal clamps loose and check for corrosion.

Sounds like a bad hose. Don't be shy - see if you can see a crack near the fitting by bending the hose. Maybe you can put some power steering fluid in, run the engine and see where its coming from.

How about just a bad solenoid? But I remember from years ago that if you hear clicking with turning the key to 'start', the solenoid is working. I guess it probably is the starter.
