Must depend what assembly plant it came from. Father in law had a 66 F100 4X4 CCLB that he purchased new and it was body color behind the letters. Caribbean Turquiose was the color of the truck....

Just read my shop manual and it says the 2 outside bolts are to be the longer ones. I take that as 1 on each end of the head in the valve spring row. I am absolutely sure it was done by the book.

Core supports and inner fenders were black....

Core supports and inner fenders were black. Firewall was body color if you want to make it look original. Stone deflector below the grill on a CC was a silver/argent color. Not sure on the non CC...
