I got the problem tracked down. There were two breaks in wire jackets. One spot looked like a mouse had it's way, and another where someone cut the wires and spliced them back together...

Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna have to go with the metal bushings. Luckily I have a machine shop two doors down from my shop and he works weekends.
