Those sealing rings are Teflon and quite common.

But are probably worn out.

Make sure the pan is flat.

Remove it and place it upside down on a flat area.

Any visible light will show where a high spot is.

It could also be coming from the shift lever seal.

Before or after the radiator cooler?

Best bang for your buck is after the radiator cooler.

Third and reverse use the same pack.

Depends what kind of filter was used. I have seen dacron filters implode restricting fluid intake.

Next time it does that shut it off for a few minutes. If the filter is imploding shutting it off...

Yup. If you have never done this stuff before it could be a costly learning curve.

If the engine freezes it can crack the block.

Take it to Ford.
