If an 8V is installed the voltage regulator should be adjusted to charge 8V.
I tried one in my 55 but could never get the regulator to charge enough.
Went to a Tractor Supply 6V and works and...

Just to muddy things up a bit, if you can afford to powder coat, that is an excellent alternative. Did my 55 frame with that about 10 yrs ago and am completely happy with it. Expensive, but worth it...

I would paint the disassembled pieces.
Did this with my 55. Just be careful putting it together so as not to scratch anything.
You will get a better paint job this way.

I run 6.00 x 16 Coker bias tubed white walls on my 55.
Don't drive it much, a few miles a year. They flat spot after sitting but quickly recover.

Got them as I wanted everything as original.

My 55 has the VIN in 2 places.
Plate on the glove box door.
On the top of the frame, passenger side just ahead of the front body mount and engine compartment.

As of Thursday 5 cars have been removed. The remaining 3 are buried under dirt & debris. 4of the 5 are heavily damaged as seen on the Automotive News web-site.
All will be on display at the Museum...

The above replies are correct.
Dot 4 is best for higher performance driving where the brake fluid gets hot for periods of time. I use it my race Corvettes.
Dot 3 is fine for normal everyday driving.
