Your o8 should have grease fittings, maybe you could get by with just a good greasing of yours and be fine, I certainly would give it a try before I tore into it, the vacuum hubs (if you have them)...

UPDATE!!!!! Ok, I had my truck fixed and the problem was the U-joints on the front axle shafts...specifically one u-joint was frozen and both where extremely dry and on there way out....long story...

As long as the output is acceptable and the pulley the same diameter, and being careful to get the belt in the proper groves I don't see why it would be an issue.
