1. make sure your parking brake cables are releasing fully.
2. the start adjusters are not interchangeable from left to right, so make sure those havent been mixed up.

i woudnt put a magnet above ... it's upward movement that dislodges it from its cradle. a better way might be to slip a nail or stiff piece of wire in after you remove each fastener.

using sealant in lieu of a pan gasket is, IMHO, acceptable (as long as it doesn't leak ;)).
