got to ask , why such a big carb ? With 2" sec throttle bore it would be hard to tone it down , best you can do is a black spring and and change out the the sec plate [ came with a 34R9716-54 ] ....

Do you have a sec. jet plate or metering block ? You could change the the plate or change the jets , Or change the sec. spring [ slower rate of opening the throttle blades ]

edelbrock is a easy rebuild ,take your time ,clean, blow out passages , make sure the float setting are correct . If you have questions the board will help . Good luck

Not like a Holley no power valve to blow out , may have some crap in the needle and seat the passage from the inlet to the seats collects crud and there are small screens on the seats they also do...

If you are getting vacuum off the ported port at idle the throttle blades are open to far , try backing the idle off a bit
