The current cells are basic silicon based cells from grape solar. The batteries are LiFePO4. They aren't quite as good as lithium ions, but they are MUCH safer.

Solar is still a possible technology that if nothing else can help increase range a few more miles. Motors can put out both extreme torque and efficiency(although not necessarily at the same time)...

I am on the University of Kentucky Solar Car team. We have a fully electric race car that can travel indefinitely if the sun is out at about 35 to 40 mph and then about another 150 just on batteries....

There were no factory dual rear wheel 4x4 light trucks from Ford in the 70s. That is a 100% certainty. There were conversions, but none from a Ford factory.
