it is possible that negative terminal was loose and got wet causing the current to "jump" across the loose connection, and the moisture caused it to corrode and fall apart.

my experience with failing coils is that they need to get hot before they fail, and that takes 10 -15 + minutes, not 2-3 minutes.

get a set of regular autolite or motorcraft copper core plugs and swap them in. i bet it will purr like a kitten. ...

get a set of autolite or motorcraft copper core...

get a set of autolite or motorcraft copper core plugs and try them. i bet it will purr after you remove those double platnum plugs.

what plugs were put in? these engines only like common copper core plugs. the fancy titanium and platnum plugs usually make them run like crap.

i do believe in post #11 i said to go to a CT motor vehicle office and ask them what to do.
they would be able to tell you by the vin you give them if it was stolen or what you need to do to put it...

65 was the last year the ranchero was falcon based. in 66 and 67 the ranchero was switched to the fairlane platform, then to the torino platform in 68
