Well the original will still have the under size...

Well the original will still have the under size gage wire for the lights. Which is where all the problems start. If you are planning on using halagon lights you should still use the relay system.

Since you are doing a restoration you probably want the factory harness. I have the one (complete) removed from my 68. But I was holding onto it till get my truck back together, at my rate 1+ years....

I have the same unit as you describe on my 68 F100. It uses R-12 freon if the unit has not been converted. There should be a sight glass on the Drivers side under the hood next to the radiator...

Some times it better to install 1 line, tighten before going to the next in tight quarters. You can also use copper washer for metal seals if needed.

Lube the latch mechanism. The grease has probably thickened up causing the problem. You may also have the door set to tight, pulling the door to tight. This happens if the door seal is getting stiff.

If the light is burning dimly it could be a diode in the alt. If bright and the alt is charging points to the regulator. Did you hook up the ground to the regulator?
