I've never been a fan of adding a leaf to very worn out springs. Your not really fixing the problem, just kind of putting a band aid on it. I understand why people do it though, easier and cheaper....

What about a heavy duty version to your current leaf spring. That way it would be a direct replacement and you wouldn't have to modify any bushings or make any holes larger.

Definitely check out your bushings in the spring eyes. If your tip inserts are worn you will hear a metal on metal squeaking noise. You may have a broken clip that is jingling around under there...
