330 in 1979 U-Haul

The 330 in my 1979 U-Haul "F37..." is called a 330 XD. I know of no other FT engine that was called an XD. The GVWR is #9900. I believe it has some FE and (mostly) FT parts. I haven't had the rocker...

It's fair to compare them, and thanks for the nice photos. It is comparing apples & oranges, though. I believe the Hemi is designed for racing, & very high horsepower (4-5,000 hp?) applications. The...

...I'm sure Ford used a Rochester Q-Jet on some early '70's 429's.

FT and SuperDuty warrenty...

I worked for Duthler Ford (car and truck), in Grand Rapids MI, from 1969 to 1976. We bought new (FT) 391 and 534's from the local Cat. dealer, and delivered them to (mostly) West Michigan county road...

I would install the internal components from a solid state FE dist., which should fit in your 1974 dist., and go with a blue grommit Ford module. Otherwise, figure if it is a FE or FT dist and order...

I'm guessing your distributer has the larger FT distributer hole in the block. Ford made/makes a reducing bushing to adapt a (smaller shaft housing) FE distributer. Either will "work", if your engine...

[By 1973 all FE and FT truck engines were manufactured at Clifford Manufacturing up north in the one-train town of Clifford Michigan, with raw castings coming out of Ford's brand new MCC. I'm not...

My U-Haul is a 1979 with a 330XD!

That's right, Ford made/sold 330XD's in 1979! It's not a HD or a MD, it is an XD. My 1979 (and many others) were specially made for U-Haul with some sort of hybrid FE/FT combination. It has the...

Short and bare 428 blocks

Ford sold 390 and 428 short (xxxx-6009-x) and bare (xxxx-6010-x) blocks in many different versions. The 428 in my '79 F150 4X4 cost me $240 way back when (1974?). It was new in a box and a hydraulic...

Truck And Car Are Different

Truck and car bellhousings are different depths. Truck housings are more shallow-1/2 " or so, I don't remember the exact amount but they are close enough that they must be measured. "C5TA" type...

Porting

$1250? Ouch! Ouch! OUCH! Since all FE's. 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, and 428 (except the SOHC?) have the same exhaust gasket/port, the exhaust isn't really a "problem", at least on a street...
