I believe that is an Explorer engine. On that style of intake manifold the PCV valve is located in the rear of the intake manifold, not in the valve cover....

You can remove the whole piece that goes between the two cylinder heads. It takes maybe a 1/2 or 9/16 wrench on both sides and then you can work on the check valve off of the truck.

Matching the master and slave bore sizes does matter. Later models use a smaller master cylinder bore, but '88 should be the same as '87. Still doesn't hurt to double check so there are no surprises.

The S5-47 (and even newer S5-42's) will not have speedometer drive capability if you have a two wheel drive truck. If it is 4x4, the speedometer is driven off of the transfer case and it won't matter.
