I remember back a ways that someone installed metric studs/bolts. Don't remember what size but it was just slightly larger than the striped hole...

Make sure you put sealant on the studs/bolts on the retainer as since they go thru they themselves can be a source of a weepage.

Any of those will work, they all tap into the main oil gallery that runs down that side of the engine.

Except the plug just below the freeze plug of course. That's the block water drain.:-X18

Don't know of anyplace that has a Heat Riser (https://search.yahoo.com/search?p=heat+riser&type=2button&fr=ymyy-t-564) valve for a Y-Block but perhaps you can find another to fit. Maybe from a FE?

Since your using your truck for towing, go with a four holer. The open plenum design is more for upper RPM power. I believe the original one on a "B" manifold was ~ ˝" thick.

Jeff, yes it's the 500cfm, #1403 with electric choke. Be aware that the bores in the secondaries are slightly larger than the "B" manifold and you will need to use a spacer to keep the butterflies...

Jeff, The Edelbrock is a good carb. That's what I'm running on my 318" Y-Block. Like most modern carbs it has the port for your PCV valve and both ported and manifold vacuum connections. :-X06:-X06

Just because you have a 600 cfm carburetor on your 272 it does not mean your engine could flow 600 cfm. With that big of a carb I doubt your secondaries are even opening. I would suggest a 390 or 450...
